SportsAid helps the next generation of British sports stars by giving them financial support and recognition during the critical early stages of their careers.
Young talented athletes supported by the ground-breaking Backing The Best programme received expert insight and guidance from double OIympic champion Rebecca Adlington, Rugby World Cup winner Maggie Alphonsi and Team GB canoe slalom legend Richard Hounslow at a workshop last month focusing on equipping them with new skills for their future careers in sport. Backing The Best is managed by SportsAid for Sport England.
Sport England has confirmed its ongoing commitment to the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) by announcing £6 million of proposed funding over the next three years to enable talented young sports people to combine their academic development alongside their sporting ambitions. The National Lottery funding has been welcomed by England Lionesses’ Steph Houghton ahead of the UEFA Women’s Euro 2017 finals.
Two of Great Britain’s most promising young athletes have received a welcome boost to their future sporting ambitions after the CiaO Foundation, in partnership with SportsAid, presented Primrose Awards to wheelchair racer Nathan Blackie and para-cyclist David Murphy at the ArcelorMittal Orbit in London yesterday (15 June). The CiaO Foundation aims to help and support people overcome phenomenal challenges in their lives.
