Get Living supporting the next generation 10 years on from London 2012

Get Living is continuing to support the next generation of talented young athletes, a decade on from the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympic Games, through its partnership with SportsAid.

Get Living manages more than 1,400 private rental homes in East Village which is part of the bustling Queen Elizabeth Park - formerly the Athletes’ Village for London 2012. 

Get Living has successfully built on its connection to the Games with SportsAid. Since 2015, Get Living has provided over 70 athlete awards of £1,000 to help emerging sportspeople from areas local to their rental homes. This year, Get Living is supporting 10 more athletes across 10 different sports, with an average age of 17. 

Middle distance runner Daniel Rowden and wheelchair fencer Gemma Collis who were both supported by Get Living with financial awards during their early development, competed at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympics respectively. Since 1976, SportsAid has supported tens of thousands of athletes, distributing over £50 million in awards and providing a platform for them to share their stories and inspire others. 

Rick de Blaby, Chief Executive of Get Living, said: “SportsAid provides vital support and funding to develop young athletes across the UK which is why we have been proud sponsors since 2015. Best of luck to all the athletes competing at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, the Get Living team will be cheering them all on." 

SportsAid's extensive alumni stretches across the generations including Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill, Sir Mo Farah, Baroness Grey-Thompson, Dame Sarah Storey, Sir Steve Redgrave, Dame Katherine Grainger, Denise Lewis OBE - and more recently - Dame Laura Kenny, Tom Daley OBE, Ellie Simmonds OBE, Dina Asher-Smith and Adam Peaty OBE - all national sporting heroes and heroines. 

The charity's impressive track record was further highlighted at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympics with is alumni winning an incredible haul of 141 medals across the two Games. This included 47 of Team GB’s 65 medals and 94 of ParalympicsGB’s 124 medals.
